Chang Chin Tzu (Ai Fei) of mysterious origin evolves a magical being through solar energy. His jealous rival Chang Chun Tzu (Wang Li) creates an evil being to counter it. Chang Ching Tzu sends his creature to earth, where it is found and cared for by an old carpenter (Ching Miao) and named Shih Sheng. On reaching manhood, Shih Sheng (Derek Yee) has his latent supernatural powers developed by Chang Ching Tzu.
One day the old carpenter and other craftsmen are enlisted by imperial decree to build a palace. Shih learns that all workers are to be killed after the work has been completed, and he urges them to flee. When the soldiers arrive to round them up, Shih resists them with his special powers, but as he retreats he inadvertently enters the royal garden. The Princess (Cherie Chung Cho-hung) takes a fancy to him and detains him as her gardener.
The Emperor’s uncle (Lung Tien-chiang) has ambitions to dominate the world. He orders the seizure of every intelligent baby in order to create a master race. He tries to prevent the Princess from finding out by sending her out of the capital, but when she eventually learns of her uncle’s atrocities he tries to kill her. Shih covertly assumes his magical powers, rescues her, and expels her uncle. The Princess now falls in love with the super-powerful stranger, not knowing that it is Shih in disguise.
The Imperial uncle lets loose the evil creature (Ku Kwun-chung) to use its help to fight his super-powered rival. The good and evil creatures clash in a fierce duel. But a solar eclipse suddenly deprives Shih of his magical energy. The Princess comes to his aid, and he regains his powers to crush his evil enemy.
